Sunday May 15, 2022
We got up at 3:45 a.m. (!). We take the plane to
Amsterdam at 6 o’clock. But this plane is late and we must run so fast we can in
Amsterdam to catch the next flight to Athens. The plane is full, apparently tourism has
resumed. We arrive in Athens at 1 p.m. local time (noon in Bergen). Jens has rented
a car and the rental guy picks us up and takes us to their office, 10 minutes
from the airport, that's probably why it's the cheapest. We leave and as usual
I am the driver and Jens is the navigator. If I was the navigator, we would
arrive in Istanbul. No, actually it is very easy and we know the way. Good
highway with short sections between tolls. The weather is nice and warm and when
we stop to change drivers, we take off our pants and sweaters and put on
shorts. We take a good little pizza, iced tea and an ice cream, the holidays
begin. We pass the Corinth Canal and then further the large bridge that
connects the continent to the Peloponnese. We drive well and arrive at Hera II
at 7:30 p.m. We find her in good condition, the hull well painted and tidy
inside, the last ones who used her did a good job…obviously since it was us in
October! Hera II is against the fence that marks the limit of our yard. On the
other side is another yard "Clopatra Marina". And there, on the other
side of the fence, we see "Victoria Rose", a yacht that we had met in
Kalamata in June 2016, during our long trip with Maja. The owners are on board
and we talk a little. They remember our meeting. We work a little (remove the
tarp, put the life raft back in place, make the beds…) then go to dinner at a
taverna near the yard. We are not in Preveza itself but on the other side of
the “fjord”. By road you have to go through a tunnel under the sea to go to
Preveza. Typical Greek menu: Greek salad and tomatoes stuffed with rice. It's
already 10 p.m. when we're finished and we go back to bed in Hera II on land,
it's been a long day.
PS All the flowers shown today were founded in a few square meters on the side of the road
