We don’t have a room on the street but overlooking a
courtyard, so we can leave the window open and the room is quite cool, we slept
well. We have breakfast at a tourist cafe on the esplanade, croissant and
coffee, then Jens leaves to work at the institute. I walk around a bit,
especially in the shade, it is very hot. Incredible the contrast between the
beautiful buildings and abandoned houses in the same neighborhood. I return to
the hotel and do a long blog for yesterday with two maps, one for the boat trip
and the other for the car trip from Preveza to Athens. Jens comes back around
noon and we go to lunch in a street parallel to ours. It’s 200m from the
tourist area and it’s 100% Greek. A café called “Dolce Mundo” where all the
customers are only men who drink coffee. A very old man must spend many hours
here and the cafe guy is nice with him. The guy makes us two good sandwiches
and the bill is €10 for two, with beer. We return to the hotel and set off on
foot towards the car, it is hot and it is steep so we are not going fast. In
the car, parked in the sun, it is at least 40 ⁰ and even Jens, who does not
like the air conditioning, wants to put it on. The GPS takes us to the rental
office and from there a guy takes us to the airport. The KLM plane takes off
with a little delay and in Amsterdam we only have 40 minutes, but that's fine:
we arrive at gate C6 and leave for Bergen from gate C9. Arrival in Bergen at 11
o'clock in the evening and it is still light. The car we had left at the
airport starts (phew!) and we drive home.
Another very good “båttur” with Hera II ends,
everything went very well, good weather, new places and meeting new nice
people. What more could man wish for?
